Day Course – Day 1 (Theory) Day 2 (Practical)

The
Level 1 mountain bike leader / instructor qualification
is aimed at those who wish to lead groups of beginners in
non-technical terrain Low level Bridleways and areas like
Sherwood forest
.
The
Level 2 mountain bike leader / instructor qualification
is aimed at those who wish to lead groups in technical terrain
up to 600m in height. Areas
like
Tollymore
Forest
and the Peak District and UK Trail Centres.
The
Level 3 mountain bike leader/ instructor qualification
is aimed at those who wish to lead groups above 600m. A period
of Approx 6 months will usually be required before your
assessment. You will
need to attend Level 2 first and show the necessary skills to
progress. You will
be expected to lead and guide in areas like Switcbacks in
Spain
and all UK Trail centre Black routes.
On
Completion of the Course 3rd Party insurance is
available for £39 per annum.
During
the Assessment you will be expected to demonstrate skills and
teach to other members of the group.
All Skills and Instruction Methods will be demonstrated
by Dave Youngs. You
will not be asked to do anything you haven’t been taught.
Feed Back and Tips will be given throughout.
The
Level 1 & Level 2 courses are run together. The candidates
& Instructor will decide after the training period which
assessment the candidate will undergo; Level 1 or Level 2
The
course has national accreditation with: The
Association of British Cycle Coaches, Cyclist's Touring
Club (C.T.C.)
and the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA)
and the NVQ Awarding Body (A.B.C.).

The
syllabus shown above is assessed to meet MIAS requirements by
the following methods-

Practical
demonstrations
Candidates
who wish to be assessed at Level 1 must be able to demonstrate
basic off-road riding skills.
Candidates
who wish to be assessed at Level 2 must be able to demonstrate
strong off road riding skills including step drops (up to 1/2
metre), descending / braking in a controlled manner, effective
climbing and pedalling techniques in rough / rocky terrain. It
is unlikely that these skills would have be gained if the
candidate has been riding for less than 12 months in off road
(rough) terrain. If candidates do not possess these off road
skills, they should first attend our Beginners
and Intermediate
courses.
Although
other relevant leadership skills / qualifications are an
advantage they are not essential.
Total
cost of Level 1 & 2 Training / assessment = £185(including
ABC Certificate).
Level
1 & 2 Training / assessment courses are 2 days in duration.
09.00am till 18.00pm (approx.)
At
the end of the Training / Assessment, successful instructors
will have their logbooks signed by the course tutor. *This will
then enable them to lead groups below 600 metres. A formal
certificate from the ABC ( NVQ Awarding Body ) will follow by
post.
**The
candidate must also hold a valid First Aid certificate prior to
leading groups.
